Securing food and education is of paramount importance for many children worldwide. For $6.00, the cost of a child’s average weekly take away meal, you can send 100 protein-fortified rice…
FOOD CRISIS MEANS HUNGER AND THE NUMBER ONE CAUSE OF DEATH IN THE WORLD IS HUNGER
Every 10 seconds, a child dies from a hunger-related disease. Every day, 22,000 children die due to poverty, and every year, 3.1 million children die from malnutrition. A food crisis is a lack of food in a country.
Learning that malnutrition is a global epidemic that magnifies the effects of every disease is valuable knowledge. These diseases include measles and malaria. Also affected are people’s ability to learn. The world food crisis is of paramount importance to the My Wow Factor Charity’s aim to feed the hungry children and reduce the mortality of children under five.
Developing countries contribute up to 98 percent of the 795 million hungry people in the world, reported the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in 2015. Two-thirds of undernourished people live in just seven countries (Bangladesh, China, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia and Pakistan.) Today’s food crisis is most severe in sub-Saharan Africa, at 23.2 percent in 2015.
Controlling political and economic systems in the world is the principal factor underlying cause of poverty and hunger, i.e., control over resources and income for military, political, and economic power. The world’s agriculture produces 17 per cent more calories per person today than it did 30 years ago, despite a 70 per cent population increase. There is enough food in the world to feed everyone, providing everyone in the world with at least 2,720 kilocalories (kcal) per person per day.
Increasing the principal problem of the food crisis is that many individuals in the world do not have sufficient land to grow food or the income to purchase enough food. Research by the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation shows that investment in agriculture is five times more efficient in reducing poverty and hunger than investment in any other sector. Investment in improving land management, using water more efficiently, and making more resistant seed types available could bring big improvements to a food crisis.
Partnering with My Wow Factor Charity means together we can feed the hungry and the forgotten poor one child at a time. Feeding programmes in 20 different countries are made possible by our Australian partner, Feed The Hungry. Since May 2017, we have been excited to be a part of the opportunity to help feed over 150,000 children daily; thank you.
